On the one hand, some Christians stress the importance of keeping all the rules – that you must do this and never do that if you want to prove you are really a Christian. On the other hand, there are those who reject the whole idea of rules or traditions in the church and see the point of the Christian faith as setting us free from the institutionalized religious burden.

But Paul addresses these two competing views by showing us a far better way – a truly Christian way to live our lives. It is the way of the Spirit of God given to us through Christ: “Walk by the Spirit … led by the Spirit … live by the Spirit … keep in step with the Spirit.” That is the heart and soul of Christian living – the center and secret of what it means to be a person who belongs to Christ.

In this workshop via ZOOM we will use Christopher Wright’s book Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit to explore three keys to abundant life in Christ:

  • Feeding on the Word of God

  • Growing in Christlikeness

  • Living a Fruitful Life

You will need to purchase this book and read the first three chapters before our first session.

The Rt. Rev. Dr. Silas Ng is the Apostolic Vicar (Chief Bishop) of Anglican Mission in Canada, Rector of Richmond Emmanuel Church and the author of Micro Macro Discipling.

“The Word of Scripture should never stop sounding in your ears and working in you all day long, just like the words of someone you love. And just as you do not analyze the words of someone you love, but accept them as they are said to you, accept the Word of Scripture and ponder it in your heart, as Mary did. That is all… do not ask ‘How shall I pass this on?’ but ‘What does it say to me?’ Then ponder this word long in your heart until it has gone right into you and taken possession of you.”

- Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together

Hosted via ZOOM, in this workshop we will explore the ancient spiritual practice of Lectio Divina, a kind of scripture reading that is less about studying the Word of God for information, but instead is more about listening to a scripture passage with the ear of the heart for transformation. We let go of the more intellectual, or studious ways of reading the scripture and enter a state in which we are quiet and receptive to God’s word, engaging our heart, emotions, our curiosity and our will. In this practice, the words of scripture become very alive and touch the heart in spontaneous ways that lead us more deeply into relationship with God.

Each session will begin with teaching about this spiritual discipline followed by practicing reading scripture using Lectio Divina.

The Rev. Kathy J. King is the rector of the Light of Christ Anglican Church in Nanaimo, BC. She is also a trained Spiritual Director and is passionate about helping people grow in deeper relationship with God through spiritual disciplines and spiritual direction.

Anointing ᐧ Connecting ᐧ discipling

A 3-session workshop hosted by Bishop Silas Ng and Canon Edmund Ho on Zoom Sunday, September 5, 12 and 19 2:00-3:30pm PST / 5:00-6:30pm EST

This practical and user-friendly workshop will draw from Keith E. Webb's The Coach Model for Christian Leaders to help us learn to become an anointed Discipler, to enrich our spiritual lives, and to help us and our churches to raise up more disciples for Jesus.

Over the three weeks we’ll consider:

  • Friendship Discipling

  • Online Discipling

  • The role of Coaching and Mentoring in Discipling

As a lead-up to our National Summit and the follow-up sessions on disciple-making provided by our guest speakers of Icon Ministries, these three sessions will help equip us to participate in Jesus’ call to “Go into all the world and make disciples…”
